Inventory of information and other associated assets
An inventory of information and supporting assets exists, with an owner for each.
What an assessor looks for
Completeness is tested by sampling in the opposite direction: an assessor picks a device or system they observed and checks whether it appears. Ownership must resolve to a person, not a department.
Where it usually fails
The inventory covers servers and laptops but omits SaaS tenancies, data held by suppliers, and anything acquired outside procurement.
